April 2009 Board Recognitions
The April Students of the Month are Sarah Trevino and Alejandro Tovar.
April Female Student of the
Month Sarah has been a leader among her peers. She is a former President of the Spanish Club and is a member of the National Honor Society. Sarah received the BCIS Outstanding Student of the Year Award. Most noteably, Sarah was chosen to represent the city of Floresville as this year’s Queen Tunaep. As a member of the royal court, Sarah serves as an ambassador for Floresville, representing the city as festivals across south Texas. Sarah has also been active in FHS athletics. She is a member of the FHS cross country, basketball, and track teams. She has been a regional qualifier in cross and country for the past four years. Sarah was the cross country representative for the Athletic Leadership Council and was a SA Sports Student Writer. When not busy with academic and extracurricular activities, Sarah is volunteering in the community. As a member of the FHS VAL-U Class, Sarah has participated in numerous service learning projects, giving back to her community. She has also been active in the community through her role as Queen Tunaep. Sarah has been active at the Primary campus, making Halloween bags and reading to students. She has donated blood and has been an active member of First Baptist Church. Despite her busy schedule, Sarah has still found time for employment. She is currently employed at the FISD administrative offices. Upon graduation in June, Sarah plans to pursue a pharmaceutical degree at the University of Texas at Austin.
April Male Student of the
Month The April Male Student of the Month is Alejandro Tovar. Alejandro is the eighteen-year-old son of Thelma and Santiago Tovar. Alejandro has been a standout in the classroom. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been named to the FHS Honor Roll. He is a member of numerous academic organizations, including ROTC, and has received academic awards for his efforts. He has also been a leader among his peers, holding various class office positions. Alejandro has been very active in extracurricular activities, as well. He is a member of the Mighty Tiger Band. As a member of the football, track and cross country teams, Alejandro was recognized for his successes. When not busy with academic and extracurricular activities, Alejandro is volunteering in his community. He assisted with the brick laying around the flagpole at Connally Memorial Hospital. In addition, he has partcipated in Adopt-A-Highway and Adop-A-Veteran programs. He also assisted with Toys for Tots and canned food drives. Despite his busy schedule, Alejandro is employed within the community. He currently works with San Antonio Catering. Upon graduation in June, Alejandro plans to pursue a degree in either general studies or entomology. He plans to attend Texas State University, and has already received scholarships to assist with college expenses.
