October 2009 Board Recognitions

The October Students of the Month are Stephanie Erskine and Carter Ray.

October Female Student of the Month

The October Female Student of the Month is Stephanie Erskine. Stephanie is the eighteen-year-old daughter of Carol and Greg Ferguson.
Stephanie is a member of the FHS Jaguar Basketball team, Stephanie has earned numerous honors. She has received Academic All-District Honors from 2006 through 2009. In 2006-2007, she was named New Comer of the Year.
Stephanie was named to the 1st Team All District in 2007-2008. Last year, she received All Tournament honors at the Floresville and Uvalde tournaments. She was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ All Region Team and the San Antonio Express-News All Area Team. She was also named MVP for District 29-AAAA in 2009 for basketball. Stephanie was also a leader among her peers, serving as the basketball team captain. She also served as the manager for the cross country team.
Despite the demands of her academic course load and extracurricular activities, Stephanie still finds time for employment. She has been working at Lyssy & Eckel Feeds since August. Upon graduation in June, Stephanie plans to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she will major in business to prepare her for a career as an accountant.

October Male Student of the Month

The October Male Student of the Month is Carter Ray. Carter is the seventeen-year-old son of Pam and Tom Ray.
Carter is active in numerous FHS organizations and is a leader among his peer. As a Link Crew Leader, Carter mentors incoming freshmen to help them make a smooth transition into high school. Carter also serves as President of the National Honor Society and is a member of the Student Council.
For his efforts in the classroom, Carter has been named to the All “A” Honor Roll and has received recognition for perfect attendance.
Success has not been limited to the classroom. Carter has lead his teammates as captain of both the cross country team and the varsity basketball team. He was also named Academic All District in Cross Country.
As a member of the Mighty Tiger Band, Carter has been named to the All Region Band and was drumline captain.
 
As a member of the Peanut Festival Court, Carter serves as an ambassador for the City of Floresville. He, and other members of the court, represent the city in parades throughout South Texas.
 
When not busy with academics and extracurricular activities, Carter is volunteering in his community. Carter has volunteered with the Houston Food Bank, Open Door Ministry, and the Bridge Ministry. In addition, he is a member of the worship band at his church. He has also participated in numerous community service projects through his involvement in the Peanut Festival.
Carter has also held jobs at Ray’s Dairy Farm and Wiatrek’s Meat Market.
 
Upon graduation in June, Carter plans to attend Texas A&M University, where he will join the Corps of Cadets and pursue a degree in business administration and political science.
