Lesson Overview

A brief summary of the lesson and the expected outcomes.

Overview Students will come up with sentences that teachers should become familiar with to speak with Spanish speaking students. This guide is to assist the teacher in communicating their curriculum to the student.

Engaging Questions

The task asks students to show their "know how" on something important and challenging, not just their knowledge.

Engaging /
Essential Questions
Class will begin with the teacher and a "planted" student speaking gibberish. The teacher will choose someone and ask them to do a task. That student will not understand so the teacher will ask the "planted" student the same thing. That student will then perform the task. After this, the class will have a discussion on how they felt. What kind of problems do you foresee? What languages do we hear? What can be done to "bridge the gap"?

Authentic Learning

The task reflects what people might actually do in the real-world; including real life issues, themes, and problems.

Activities 1. Students will interview different teachers (of their choice) to determine phrases they use for that subject area.

2. Using Publisher, students will create a four page brochure for that teacher. Students will need to determine two basic phrases: General phrases and subject Content phrases.

3. In creating the guide, they will need to put the English and then the Spanish.
