The Pillow
My Grandma, Mary rushed to shelter as the storm brewed! Luckily there was a tarp in the backyard. She hurried towards it. “Oh no, I dropped all the vegetables I picked!” she shouted. She waited there for hours until the storm moved on to another place. After that she got back to what she was doing. Days passed, and Mary got bored. She was sick and tired of doing work all the time. She knew what she wanted to do. Instead of work, she wanted to make a pillow. Where was she going to buy materials? Mary went inside and asked her mother, “Where can I buy stuff to make a pillow?” “Go to the Dollar Store. There is one at Victoria.” Mary got in her car, and then a terrible thing happened. BOOM! CLASH! CLANG! The car started spinning rapidly! She crashed right into a tree! “Man! So much for trying to buy a pillow,” she said to herself. Her mom came to pick Mary up in the other car. They started on their way home, but traffic was terrible. “Can we pull over and get something to eat? Maybe we could let traffic die down. We could also get stuff to make a pillow,” Mary suggested. My grandma went into the dollar store and saw a tremendous amount of colors. She had no idea what she wanted. Then she had to go because the dollar store was closing. “Dang it! I didn’t have enough time to get cloth!” They were disappointed, but tomorrow the store would be open and they could try again. Morning arrived and they went to Victoria again. Hopefully the dollar store hadn’t closed this time. It was about 3:00 when they arrived at Victoria. When they got there, they found more colors because the store had got a new shipment. Any color, they had it. Mary picked a design that had green and tan squares on it. “This is my favorite,” Mary said. When they got home she received terrible news. Her grandpa had died. They went to the funeral which was in Georgetown, TX. After about three hours of driving, they arrived at the Catholic Church. The funeral started. After an hour and a half it was over and they left the church. They started their way home. When they arrived home, my grandma went into her room and stated to cry. She looked up and saw the cloth and stuffing. She could distract herself with this, so she started making the pillow. Mary realized one thing: She didn't have a sewing machine or a needle. "Why did I forget to get a stupid sewing machine?!" she asked herself outrageously. "Calm down! You are yelling right in my ear! Besides I have a sewing machine in the closet!" said her mother. They got it out and she made a nice, fluffy pillow. It turned out to be a success. I still have that pillow today. |
