Governor John Connally

Governor John Connally was born on a farm near Floresville, Texas, on February 27, 1917. He graduated from Floresville High School, and entered the University of Texas in 1933. Governor Connally graduated from law school in 1941.  Nellie Brill and John Connally were married December 21, 1940 with four children born to them.  During World War Two, John Connally joined the Navy as a fighter on aircraft carriers and he went through nine major battles in the Pacific and he was a lieutenant commander. After the war he started a radio station in Austin, Texas, called KVET. Next he entered politics and worked with Lyndon B. Johnson. Then he went back to practice law in Texas in 1950.   President John F. Kennedy made Connally the Secretary of the Navy in 1961. He was Governor of Texas from 1963 to 1969.  In Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963 President Kennedy and Governor Connally were shot. President Kennedy was killed and Governor Connally was badly wounded. After he was Governor he joined a large law firm in Houston. He died on June 15, 1993, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston and he was buried in the State Cemetery in Austin.
