| The Rancho de las Cabras was a ranch maintained by vaqueros (Indian cowboys loyal to the Catholic Church). It was visited occasionally by the Franciscan missionaries who ran Mission Espada. The animals raised by the vaqueros were sent to feed the Indians and missionaries at Espada. The ranch was located near what is now present-day Floresville. The chapel was used for religious services for the Indians who lived at the ranch, whenever the priests visited. The Rancho was established in the mid-1880s. |
