The Community

Named for early Spaniard rancher, Don Francisco Flores de Abrego, the nucleus of the present town was founded on land donated by the Flores family.  Because of its strategic location on the San Antonio River between Mission La Bahia in Goliad and the Alamo in San Antonio; Floresville played a strong role in early Spanish settlement of the area.  Interest in those Spanish influences has been revived, and the Rancho de Cabras mission is now part of the National Park Service.  Historical items are also on display at the Jailhouse Museum in Floresville.

Floresville is known as the Peanut Capital of Texas and celebrates with a Peanut Festival each October.  Floresville is a scenic rural community located just 30 miles southeast of San Antonio in Wilson County.  The rural setting provides a welcome contrast to the big-city hustle and bustle, with seasonal crops lining the roadways and colorful wildflowers blooming in the spring.  Agriculture and livestock are the major industries.  Floresville’s proximity to San Antonio provides for easy access to urban amenities.  San Antonio has four private colleges, three state junior colleges, a state university, and a state medical school.  The medical school, dental school, and teaching hospital make San Antonio a nationally recognized medical center.  San Antonio’s considerable increase in population has affected the growth of Floresville ISD.

There is much diversity in industry, the military, business construction and recreation.

Floresville is just a short drive away from seven outstanding shopping malls, Sea World of Texas, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas, in additional to the rich cultural and social events offered by San Antonio and surrounding towns.

With businesses such as the new HEB shopping center, Bill Miller’s restaurant and our already established businesses Floresville is changing from a sleepy community to a more urban one.  All of these amenities plus the small town atmosphere and caring community spirit make Floresville a great place to live, work and raise a family.
