Floresville Family:
Last week, I heard about something really special going on at Floresville
Elementary School. In Mrs.
Beverli Helmke’s 3rd grade class, a
contract of sorts was created between the teacher and her students. Like
everyone else, Mrs. Helmke desires an orderly classroom where students are
well behaved and show good character. What is unique is how her class is
attempting to create this atmosphere.
She has made a compact between teacher and students. It is shown
below. It follows the campus theme of “growing great kids” by her
flower design. Each of these different promises made to children
exemplify different values we wish to see in our students.
Research in effective character education tells us that when children see
and feel good character, they are more likely to display that character.
