DUAL CREDIT CLASSES Floresville High School, in agreement with the Alamo Community College District, currently offers three types of dual credit classes. Students will receive credit for high school courses while at the same time earning college hours. Students receiving an A or B in any of college course earn credit for the DAP (Distinguished Academic Program). The entire tuition and books are paid by the school district. A student must be entering their junior or senior year at FHS and must be in good standing academically and have obtained qualifying scores on the ASSET, Accuplacer, TAKS, ACT, or SAT tests. Students are limited to two classes per semester. Internet Dual Credit classes are offered during the school day in a computer lab/classroom setting with a facilitator. All assignments and communication with the professor of the course is offered online, including examinations, which are monitored by the facilitator. Attendance, grading, and classroom supervision is reported by the facilitator. Grading is noted on progress reports as a P/F (pass/fail) and credit is given on the high school transcript. Interactive Video Conference (IVC) Dual Credit classes are offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings in the video conference room at the Administrative Offices of FISD. The students receive instruction from a professor at the college via live video conferencing. In class assignments and examinations are monitored by a facilitator who also takes attendance and reports grades to the FHS office for the purpose of transcript records. Assignments and tests are either taken and submitted online or turned in to the facilitator who mails them to the professor. Courses currently offered via IVC include:
Face to Face Dual Credit classes are taught on the high school campus. These may be taught at night by faculty from the college, or by FHS teachers who are adjunct professors for the college. Courses currently offered via Face to Face include: · Government 2305 How to Enroll in Dual Credit · Sign up for and take the ASSET or Accuplacer test in the spring. (Dates and times will be announced and will be posted on the high school website) If you will be entering your senior year, you may submit your ACT, SAT, or Exit Level TAKS scores for consideration for qualifying. Seniors who qualified to take Dual Credit classes their junior year do not need to retest or submit scores. · Complete the Texas Common Application for college entrance at: www.applytexas.com This must be done each academic year, even if you took Dual Credit courses the previous year. We will schedule time-slots for this to be completed at school. A copy of the final confirmation page must be turned in to the Dual Credit facilitator for the high school. · Inform the dual credit facilitator which dual credit class you would like to take. · Pick up, complete, and submit the Dual Credit packet from the dual credit facilitator. The packet contains an information letter, parent consent form, a Dual Credit Scholastic Dishonesty Understanding, and a copy of the Internet/Dual Credit Class rules. · Indicate dual credit on your High School Course Selection sheet when you choose your high school courses for the next fall.
