CASIO Grant (1997) provided 18 teachers with three days training on the graphing calculator, probes and digital camera.  Each teacher received a graphing calculator.  Also the Collaborative is a training center for CASIO graphing calculators, CBL’s, and digital cameras. Peggy Carnahan and Karen Harrower were  the PI’s.

CEPUP (1999) is chemistry/environmental resources for 5-10 grade teachers. Three modules were presented for 28 teachers area teachers.  Kathy Ward hosted the CEPUP workshop through the Chemistry course..

GLOBE (1998-present) OLLU is a GLOBE Franchise to certify educators on environmental protocols. The teachers are to establish a school center where students will collect environmental data for international studies.  Currently, Dr. Rainwater, Dr. Ward, Scott Walker, and Peggy Carnahan have certified ~75 teachers.  Each teacher received a $50 manual. Additional funding ($500-600) for school kits for our graduate teachers have come from Bexar Met Water District, the Chemistry and NASA grants. This past semester, Region 20 assisted with funding of the training. This program has also been required for the three courses—Environmental, Integrated Chemistry, and new NASA Space/Geoscience. This semester we are making school observations on GLOBE campus implementation. We have had teachers from out of the city including Kerrville, Austin, and Houston. NASA (2000-2001) is a second NASA grant to help pre-service and in-service teachers with geology and instructional technology.  Thirty teachers will receive 6 graduate credits (geology and technology).  Also all the teachers are able to attend the annual NASA Conference, take their students to the Scobee Planetarium at SAC, receive GLOBE training, and receive classroom resources. Currently, there are classroom observations and meetings with each principal by Peggy Carnahan and in the fall by Kathy Ward. Kathy Ward is the PI.  The grant is ~$200,000 for two years.

NASA Earth and Beyond (1997-99) NASA Geo-Space Partnership Grant with OLLU and SAC.   Kathy Ward was the Curriculum Specialist for OLLU and Peggy Carnahan was the Curriculum Specialist for SAC. The grant was ~$400,000 for two years.
