I graduated from Texas State University (formally SWTSU) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  After finishing college, I taught two years in my hometown with Uvalde ISD.  I married my husband, Dale, and moved to Floresville.  We farmed peanuts in Wilson County for twenty-one years and during that time raised three children (Dalton, Laura, and Amy) who have each graduated from Floresville High School.

I have taught self-contained third grade for the last nine years and it has been a joy to work with the children of this community.  Each day, I see the importance of the classroom being a safe, respectful environment where children can feel acceptance and understanding.  I try to instill the value of effort, hard work, and possibilities into my students’ feelings about themselves.  I want my students to appreciate education and have positive attitudes toward learning.  Teachers must believe students can learn at a higher level.  Perseverance makes the difference; I want them to meet the challenge of higher goals and not give up when things seem difficult.  Through education, children have the opportunity to become successful individuals and contribute to a healthy society and future for all of us.

Floresville has been a great environment for my family.  It has been a privilege to work with the talented and dedicated professionals of this district.  I feel honored to have been nominated by my campus for the Teacher of the Year Program.  Thank you.
