Floresville ISD is making changes to our entire phone system. Currently, analog lines are provided to those who need phones. By consolidating these outside lines, a line can be used by as many users as necessary through a phone system.
Frequently Asked Questions
So what does this mean for you?
If you already have a phone on your desk today, you will receive a brand new phone that connects directly to the network. Additionally, classrooms in the district will be equipped with phones and voice mail.
How do these phones work?
They work over our existing network infrastructure. Over the summer and fall, all core and closet switches were upgraded to support this new system. These upgrades have been completed and are currently at the "fine tuning" stage.
How do I call another building in the district?
The first step is to dial 7, the building code, then you simply dial the extension of the person you are trying to reach.

What about voicemail?
All users will have a voice mail box that will eliminate the antiquated answering machines in the district.
Teachers have voice mail boxes that are not associated with their phones. The purple button on a teacher phone has no effect. Users should dial 500 on most campuses OR 7 + 02 + 5000 on High North and High West.
Will my old phone still work?
Most likely not. Many outside lines have been moved into the system. Some campuses have more lines than what are actually needed and those lines were not touched. It is, however, very important that callers begin calling on the main number for your campus. Users who still have an old analog phone should not expect that phone to be available to them for the long term.
How reliable is this?
Corporations all over the world use the same 3com equipment we are using here. It is extremely reliable. There is at least one call processor and one set of external lines per campus so that in the event of a loss of network connectivity between a campus and central office, calls would still be able to be made out from the school and into the school.
Is this complicated?
No. It is extremely simple and easy to use. You dial the extension or dial 9 or 8 to get an external line just like you would before. Voice mail is easily accessed and setup by pressing the messages button on your phone if you are in the office or calling the voicemail number if you are in a teacher.
Will my extension change?
Yes. The district wide dialing plan will be implemented to facilitate growth without running out of numbers to use. Published lines will remain the same.
Will people be able to call me directly?
No. They will dial the campus number and if they know your extension they will simply dial it when they are prompted. If they do not know your extension they can either choose to look it up over the directory feature or talk to a receptionist in the building who can transfer you. Teacher classroom extensions (campus extensions generally in the 2000-range do not permit callers to connect to that extension from the outside)
Will my phone ring during class time?
Calls originating from the outside the district will go directly to your voice mail where you can return calls during your conference period, before school, after school, or a time most convenient for you as to not disturb classtime.
