2009/2010

The FISD 2009/2010 District calendar provides for 3 “Trade Days” for Teachers, Support Staff and Paraprofessionals.

Trade Day Definition and Purpose: The trade days allow for these district personnel to have 3 holidays within the school calendar which they otherwise would not have. These trade holidays are August 18, 2009, January 22, 2010 and June 5, 2010. These days provide for flexibility in staff development and in the district calendar.

Although it is voluntary to take advantage of the trade days to attend training opportunities, please be advised that there are some Staff Development days which are only available during the summer months.  The purpose of the Trade Day program is to encourage teachers to participate in these excellent opportunities for professional development and growth.

What Counts as a Trade Day:

Teachers will attend 3 days of staff development which will count as 3 trade days by choosing from the following choices:

Required Staff Development which counts for Trade Days includes:

DANA Center Training for Math and Science

Curriculum work for Core Content and Some Electives

Special Initiative Workshops for some content areas

            GT Workshops/trainings

            LEP Workshops

            Special Education Workshops

Teachers needing to attend these required sessions will be notified by their

Curriculum Director and/or lead teacher. Note: some content areas are planning special trainings that require more than 3 days of attendance. Teachers required to be involved in these extended day trainings may be paid for the added days. (You may contact your curriculum specialist for clarification if needed.)

Teachers who are not required to attend a curriculum staff development or special program staff development days may attend any of the following to satisfy trade day requirements:

♦ FISD Technology offerings – lists and registration available on the website

♦Any Region XX workshop paid for by FISD coop may be attended free of charge by any FISD teacher. You will need to register for the session through the Region XX system. FISD coop memberships may be checked from the Service Center website.

♦College classes attended between June 8, 2009 and the date of the trade day may be counted if they support and enhance the teacher’s assignment. Prior approval from the campus Principal is required.

♦Should a teacher present a staff development for FISD on a non contract day they may use that as a trade day. But, they may not accept payment for the presentation if they use it for a trade day. ( Note: LoTi leaders are required to deliver or attend staff development and this is part of their stipend. These trainings may not be used for a trade day.  Check with Mrs. Ramos for any questions.

♦Conferences for your assigned area, if preapproved by your campus administrator

♦Other staff development relating to your assignment, if  preapproved by your campus administrator

♦Teachers requesting credit for trade days outside of these parameters must get approval, prior to attending, from their campus administrator

NOTE: These may not be used for a trade day in lieu of a required staff development.

Special Notes:

Should you provide work or training during the summer for any type of program or entity that is related to your FISD job, you may not use it as a trade day if you are paid for this service. If you are not paid, and it is related to your FISD job, then you must get prior approval from you campus administrator to count it for trade days.

The trade day staff development day must be attended on a non-contract day.  For teachers (not coaches) that is after June 8, 2009 and prior to August 18, 2009. Any Saturday session after June 1, 2009 may be used. Coaches must attend an approved staff development day that is not on a contract day.

Any staff development offered by the FISD is free of charge to any staff member.
