FISD Social Work Resources and Immediate Needs

The FISD Social Work Department has a new face, Mrs. Jennifer Grant, FISD Social Worker. Some of her goals for the department include identifying FISD children with unmet basic needs, addressing the needs of FISD’s special populations including migrant, homeless, foster, and military, and meeting the social and emotional learning needs of our children.

Meeting students’ needs is paramount to Grant, and her focus is long-term. “I want to ensure that a lack of basic needs never interferes in our students’ ability to attend school and to learn and grow into strong, healthy adults who continue the tradition of helping reach out and care for their community,” Grant said.

Grant has provided many new parent resources on the Social Work Department web page, resources that go beyond just basic needs. The page also includes resources for parents dealing with children suffering from anxiety, grief, self-harm and other critical topics. She believes that taking care of a child’s social and emotional needs, now, reap long-term benefits.

“Healthy, strong, kind, compassionate, well-socialized children create the foundation of a healthy community, a place where we all want to live,” shared Grant.

Grant is happy to be in Floresville and our district, “I am so grateful to be a part of the Floresville family.  In the few short months I have been here, I have seen so much need in our community but so much generosity, kindness, love and affection for our kids and families to counter that need.  Every day is inspiring.  I LOVE my job.”

How you can help the Social Work Department now!

FISD is in immediate need of Thrift Store volunteers to sort and organize donations and run the store between the hours of 9-2, M-F. The Thrift Store is a resource for parents and guardians to provide children’s clothing, shoes and other items.

Let us know if you are aware of families who need help with gifts or resources over the holidays.

If you have goods or services to donate to struggling families, let us know. Your generosity is appreciated not just during the holidays but the whole year through!
