The FHS Business Professionals of America compete at the State BPA contest in three categories, Global Marketing, Small Business Management, PC Servicing & Troubleshooting. They also had the first alternates in Economic Research and Graphic Design Promotion. All of the advancing teams are made up of seniors, and they were not going to let the year go by without a trip to State.
BPA Sponsor, Mrs. Jamie Hawn, said that many of this year’s state qualifiers also competed last giving them the experience they needed to prepare for the Regional and State competitions.
“Knowing that this will be their last year to compete at the secondary level, they were very determined to do well and make it to State,” said Hawn.
According to Hawn, participating in BPA allows the students to develop and use valuable soft skills that they will be able to carry into the future whether that consists of college, military or the workforce.
“The students utilize time management, teamwork and communication skills, as well as learn the importance of following directions and being prepared,” she explained
However, Hawn thinks they are getting something even bigger, “through the process, the students gain confidence, one of the greatest rewards of all.”
Congratulations and good luck to the FHS BPA teams.
