Yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott announced a Public Health Disaster in Texas due to COVID-19. As part of the order, he announced all schools will be closed through April 3 to help prevent the spread of disease. Floresville ISD will comply with the declaration and extend the current school closure through April 3. However, he clarified that this does not mean education stops – he asked districts to work with the Texas Education Agency to continue to provide educational options for our students.
FISD will begin providing options for learning from home on March 30. Next week, families will receive specific information about how FISD teachers will support our children’s continued learning.
In addition, all school-sponsored events and activities will be canceled through April 3.
The University Interscholastic League has announced that all UIL games and contests will resume no earlier than Monday, May 4.
The district will begin serving meals on Monday, March 23 as previously communicated. Families will receive information about times and locations later today.
It is important that we continue to practice the habits that the CDC recommends to keep us healthy.
- Wash your hands regularly
- Don’t shake hands
- Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded places and maintaining 3 to 6 feet of distance between people (at least an arm’s length)
- If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups
- If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice.
- Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care
Things are changing rapidly, but we will continue to monitor guidance from local, state and national health officials and will share information with you as it becomes available.
Know that you are not alone in this and that FISD will be here to support our families. Should your child need emotional support, fill out this form and a counselor will contact you. Please continue to monitor our COVID-19 website for updates.
Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the Floresville ISD community stay safe and healthy. Take good care of yourself and each other.
