M.C. Forister has been helping Floresville ISD students with disabilities for more than 30 years, including funding the Forister Center in 1980. The Forister Center provided specific resources for students with physical and mental disabilities. Forister continues to give of her money, time and spirit to help ensure that FISD Life Skills students have a meaningful and appropriate educational experience.
Forister, a 1958 graduate of FHS and special education student, suffered from physical disabilities and a severe hearing impairment that made early childhood learning difficult. By the time Forister started school, she was behind her peers and put into a special education class where she was unable to get the individual attention she needed to “catch up”. She began wearing hearing aids at the age of eight and had many surgeries that helped her begin to be more independent. After graduation, Forister began to realize her true potential. She attended San Antonio College and began working to support herself. She has never forgotten the wonderful teachers that she had in Floresville and has made it her life’s ambition to help provide an atmosphere where students with disabilities can grow.
M.C. Forister is the personification of FISD’s Core Beliefs; She has been a voice for children who sometimes don’t have their own and has been tireless in her passion to help students and educators realize their own potential.
