Strategic planning is an effort that produces fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, who it serves, what it does, and why it does it, with a focus on the future. It not only articulates where an organization is going and the actions needed to make progress, but also how it will know if it is successful.
During the 2018-2019 School Year, FISD is continuing the process of its Strategic Planning. In the last three years, district staff, students, parents and community members worked collaboratively to create the Portrait of a Floresville ISD Graduate and FISD Core Beliefs, which both align to the FISD Vision and Mission. In the spring of 2018, FISD held two community forums where attendees identified Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats for the district as it strives to transform its work in schools to place the emphasis on the developing of students as voracious, continual learners in this time of unprecedented change, innovation and social challenges.
In the fall of 2018, FISD formed Strategic Planning Teams that identified the goals and strategies that will guide the district’s work as it provides an education for the 21st-century student. Currently, Design Teams are being formed with the charge of developing clearly articulated plans for each strategy identified by the Planning Teams.
Being prepared for life after high school looks very different now that it did 20, or even 10, years ago, and to truly prepare students for their futures, it is necessary for FISD to shift from a teaching-oriented culture to a learning-oriented culture, encouraging the skills that create life-long learners and problem solvers. The strategic planning process will lead FISD’s transition to an innovative approach to educating and preparing students for prosperous lives.
