Social Work Department

Floresville ISD Department of Social Work is dedicated to the district’s educational mission by providing services that strengthen the home, community, and school partnerships through support to students and their family’s wellbeing and success.

What does a Social Worker Do?

School Social Workers bridge the gap between home, school and the community to advocate and provide support for struggling students and families. The primary goal of school social work is to address barriers to success and identify the resources that students and families need to achieve success both in school and in life. Social workers provide services that empower families to provide for their basic needs and to resolve any social, emotional, or behavioral issues that may be hindering student academic and social success. Just some of the many services that School Social Workers provide are:

  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention
  • Advocacy for students, parents and the school
  • Referrals to Social Service resources available in the community
  • Referrals to and facilitation of Social Service resources provided on the school campus
  • Attendance monitoring and truancy intervention services
  • Behavioral health counseling
  • Support groups for students and parents
  • Parent education and training
  • Facilitation of other therapeutic and student services professionals
  • Collaboration with educational and student services professionals
  • Collaboration with community agencies and organizations
  • Policy advocacy and development
