The Floresville Independent School District encompasses a large geographic area of over 285 square miles in Wilson County, extending into south-east Bexar County and is home to almost 4000 students. Although historically a largely agricultural community, Floresville now serves as a bedroom community for San Antonio. Providing a short commute to San Antonio and a small-town atmosphere, Floresville continues to experience steady growth each year. The Floresville Independent School District believes that collaboration between community, schools and family is the foundation of success for their students.
In 2007 the people of Floresville showed their commitment to educating the children of the district by passing an historic 63 million dollar bond package. Because of this support, the district is able to provide a new high school, new athletic facilities, new fine arts facilities, a new elementary school, and updates to other campuses.
Floresville provides children opportunities that are not always available in a district of its size. Through a partnership forged with The Alamo Community College, Floresville High School is able to house The Alamo Colleges Floresville Center and provide college courses to our high school students as well as the community. High school juniors and seniors are able to take advantage of Advanced Placement courses and a vast array of Dual Credit courses that allow them to graduate with college hours without ever having to leave Floresville High School. The district also offers Aerospace, Culinary Arts, Broadcast Media and Automotive programs that result, not only in college credit, but also internships and careers for students.
In 2007 the district was the recipient of a 2 million dollar character education grant. This was the beginning of a focus on students’ personal development. Instilling core ethical values, identifying students’ strengths and creating meaningful relationships in school are paramount objectives for FISD. The District believes that through focusing on students’ well-being and providing students vast academic and extra-curricular opportunities, they create students who are engaged in the present, hopeful for the future and ready and equipped to create prosperous lives for themselves and their families.
