Gifted & Talented Program

Floresville ISD identifies students who will participate in the gifted and talented program based on the criteria established under the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) State Plan for Gifted and Talented Education. The TEA’s definition of a gifted and talented student is:

A gifted/talented student is a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who

  • exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;
  • possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or
  • excels in a specific academic field. (Texas Education Code 29.121)

Student Assessment

Floresville ISD follows a three step process to identify a student as gifted and talented; nomination, assessment, and selection. Once a student is nominated and assessed, he/she is referred to the GT committee, which is composed of a campus level administrator, regular teacher (s), and or gifted and talented teacher(s), counselor(s), and a district level administrator. All committee members will have complete 6 hours of training in the nature and needs of gifted and talented students.
