School & Community Honoring Veterans, Together
November is not only a month of Thanksgiving; it is also a time to remember the men and women of our armed services who served their country for the cause of freedom. Our 9th Annual FISD Veterans Day Ceremony was a student-led event that recognized the military service of our employees and our community members. The cold front that blew in did not stop the wonderful performances of our talented students in the FHS ROTC, FHS Band, Cadet Chorale, Floresville North Elementary Choir and soloist Victoria Mayorga. FHS and FMS assisted with the program, while both elementary campuses made place mats for the veterans’ breakfast. Sodexo provided the breakfast, FISD Custodial and Maintenance Crews prepared the field to ensure all was ready for this ceremony, while FISD Transportation provided transportation for veterans at Frank Tejada Veterans Home and for Sacred Heart students and staff. Many individuals and businesses made donations making the Commemorative Air Force flyover possible. If our Veteran’s Day Ceremony is not a great example of community and student engagement, I don’t know what is. We have amazing kids at FISD and I am thankful that our staff and community are building relationships to support them.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrifices made throughout history, so that we might all live a prosperous life. Thank you veterans for your service and sacrifice.
