Floresville Middle School Assistant Principal Mrs. Sanjuanita "Coco" Peña was recognized by the FISD Board of Trustees during the September regular meeting and presented with the Community of Character award after her prompt actions saved a student from a potentially life-threatening situation.
On August 21, she was monitoring students who were waiting in the FMS cafeteria for their bus to go home. A student was eating an afternoon meal but when her bus was called, she tried to quickly finish her food and began to choke. Mrs. Peña acted immediately by applying the Heimlich Maneuver, clearing the student's airway. She then contacted the campus nurse to ensure the student's well-being.
Mrs. Peña’s quick, decisive actions are indicative of her commitment and dedication to our primary concern – our students.
